Do other specialty residents rotate through surgery?
Yes. Residents from ENT, orthopedics, family medicine, transitional and emergency medicine programs.
Is housing provided during away rotations?
Yes, housing is provided during the Transplant and Pediatric Surgery/Burns rotations.
Is advising/mentorship/coaching/career guidance available?
Each resident class is assigned a faculty mentor who meets with the resident class at least twice a year. All faculty members are available for questions, and even continue helping after graduation when needed. As residents progress through the years, advice is freely offered in both spontaneous and structured manners regarding career and/or fellowship advice.
Is there an opportunity to TA cases as chief resident?
250 TA cases are required for graduation. here have been no deficiencies in this requirement.
What is the clinic experience?
Clinic is attended with the vascular, bariatric, hepatobiliary/pancreatic, breast and general surgery specialties. There is no resident clinic.
What medical schools is this program affiliated with?
We are affiliated with Northeast Ohio Medical University, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
What are the USMLE III requirements?
Residents must pass the USMLE Level 3 or COMLEX-USA Level 3 by the end of PGY 2 year for promotion to PGY 3.
What kind of licensure do I need to obtain?
New residents are required to obtain an Ohio State Training Certificate.
Can I moonlight?
No, moonlighting is not permitted for our residents.
