Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center is proud to announce that 26 incoming physician residents and one fellow have matched to its Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program for 2025.
This new class includes 12 Internal Medicine residents, six Emergency Medicine residents, six Family Medicine residents, two Podiatric Medicine & Surgery residents, and—for the first time—a fellow in the new Healthcare Administration Leadership Management (HALM) Fellowship.
The HALM Fellowship is a transformative new program designed to equip physicians with the skills and experience needed to lead in today’s complex health care environment. Led by Matt Owens, MD, Chief Clinical Officer for Mercy Health – Lima, the fellowship offers a robust curriculum focused on strategic management, health care policy, financial stewardship, and operational leadership. Participants gain executive-level insight and hands-on experience in administrative decision-making—reflecting Mercy Health’s commitment to growing strong physician leaders and advancing care innovation.
“Match Day is a moment of great pride—not just for our incoming residents, but for all of us at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s,” said Dr. Owens. “Each year, we’re honored to welcome a new class of physicians who bring fresh energy, diverse perspectives, and a shared passion for compassionate care. Our Graduate Medical Education program continues to be a vital pipeline for training and retaining talented providers who are deeply committed to serving our community and advancing the future of health care in our region.”
Match Day is a hallmark of graduate medical education, marking the day when graduating medical students across the country learn where they will begin their residency training. At St. Rita’s, it also marks the moment when the hospital meets its next generation of physician leaders. This year’s incoming class represents 18 medical schools across the country and will begin onboarding and orientation in mid-June.
St. Rita’s launched its GME program in 2019 and now welcomes 26 new physician residents to Lima each year. In 2021, the medical center expanded its investment in education with the opening of a dedicated 48,000-square-foot GME building, featuring advanced training technology and collaborative learning spaces. The HALM Fellowship builds on this foundation, signaling the next chapter of growth in physician education at St. Rita’s.
