The Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley will be honoring health care leaders whose dedication has transformed care in Valley communities. The 2024 Health Care Visionary Awards will be held on Wednesday, April 10th at the DeYor Performing Arts Center (260 W. Federal St., Youngstown, Ohio) at 7 p.m.
This annual community event recognizes the great accomplishments of those who, in spirit and mission, exemplify service to their communities, visionary leadership in helping make the Mahoning Valley a healthier place and exceptional stewardship of the resources provided by the Mercy Health Foundation.
The 2024 honorees include:
Cynthia A. Kravec, MD will receive the Mahoning Valley Leadership in Health Award. As a Mercy Health — St. Elizabeth Internal Medicine physician and beloved faculty member of the Mercy Health - Internal Medicine residency program, Dr. Cynthia Kravec is responsible for educating future physicians in our community and cares for patients from across the Mahoning Valley. She also serves as the physician for Villa Maria Primary Care, a primary care practice at the Sisters of the Humility of Mary motherhouse. There, she provides direct physician services to nearly all the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, one of the founding sponsors of Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH). She has served BSMH as medical director of population health and a physician leader of the ambulatory deployment and management of its electronic health record. Dr. Kravec also serves on the Mercy Health Foundation – Mahoning Valley Board of Trustees. Dr. Kravec is a Cleveland native. She graduated from Kent State University, earned her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and completed her residency in internal medicine at Summa Health Akron City Hospital.
The Sisters of the Humility of Mary will receive The Heart of the Mission Award. Founded in 1854, the Sisters of the Humility of Mary are located in Villa Maria, Pennsylvania. On the beautiful campus is the Villa Maria Community Center, Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center and Villa Maria Residential Services. The Sisters of the Humility of Mary share Jesus’ mission of bringing more abundant life to God’s people, especially those who are poor. They have built a long history as educators, pastoral ministers, and health care and social service providers to continue the life-giving message of Jesus. The Sisters serve in six states across the United States and collaborate with partners in Haiti. Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital was founded in 1911 by The Sisters of the Humility of Mary, and in 1924, Mercy Health - St. Joseph Warren Hospital was founded by the Sisters. With more than 100 years of service to the Mahoning Valley, the evolution of the health care ministry of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary has always sought to share in the healing ministry of Jesus and to serve the region.
Mercy Health – St. Joe’s at the Mall will receive The Continuing the Legacy Award. Mercy Health - St. Joe’s at the Mall, which was established in August 2005 as a community outreach of
Mercy Health - St. Joseph Warren Hospital, offers the community free and discounted health screenings, vaccinations, health education programs, health information, information on community resources, fitness classes and a gym within the convenience of a local shopping mall. For nearly 20 years, the facility was led by Shirley Lisk, who developed the original program called Strong Bones Strong People, focusing on osteoporosis and fall and fracture prevention. Shirley grew St. Joe’s at the Mall and her team from a small program to the expanded facility and offerings provided today. The team continues the legacy of bringing good help to those in need in the Warren community and surrounding areas.
