Michelle Crawford and Michelle Long named to 2024 “Women hospital and health system CFOs to know” list
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO (September 24, 2024) — Mercy Health chief financial officers, Michelle Crawford and Michelle Long, were recently named to Becker's Hospital Review 2024 edition of its “Women hospital and health system CFOs to know” list. Michelle Crawford is the CFO for Mercy Health – Lorain and Youngstown, and Michelle Long is the CFO for Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
This list honors accomplished financial leaders for their dedication to optimizing healthcare. As women in healthcare leadership, the featured CFOs are recognized for bringing rich, varied perspectives to their roles and their critical contributions to the successes of their respective organizations.

Michelle Crawford joined Mercy Health in 1997 as a senior accountant and has risen through the ranks to her current role of CFO for Mercy Health – Lorain and Youngstown. She was named CFO of Mercy Health – Youngstown in 2020, and after just two years in the position, her role was expanded to also include financial oversight and responsibility of Mercy Health – Lorain. In her role as CFO, Crawford spearheads financial operations. Her key responsibilities include devising and executing financial strategies to optimize performance, ensuring adherence to financial policies across operations, and actively participating in the market's executive team and board communications. Crawford oversees areas such as financial reporting, budgeting, revenue cycle management, and strategic planning. She is responsible for an annual budget of $7 billion and oversees revenue, expenses, and the financial needs of Mercy Health – Youngstown, as well as those of Mercy Health – Lorain. She is also responsible for the financial oversight of the Mercy Health – Youngstown community benefit programs, which totaled more than $100 million in 2023. Additionally, Crawford also fosters talent development within the finance team and strongly engages in community and organizational initiatives. In addition to her role as CFO of Mercy Health – Lorain and Youngstown, she serves on the Youngstown Business Incubator (YBI) Board of Directors and the Urologic Oncology of Mahoning Valley, LLC Board of Directors.
Michelle Long is the CFO of Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, where she provides financial leadership to the hospital. In this role, she drives the annual budget process, interprets financial results, conducts periodic financial forecasts, monitors financial activities and assesses the impact of strategic priorities. Prior to taking on this role in 2020, she served as a senior financial analyst for Bon Secours Mercy Health. Long first came to Mercy Health in 1998 as a staff accountant and has since been promoted to various finance roles within the ministry throughout her career.
CFOs are expert overseers of their organizations' financial operations, responsible for handling massive capital budgets and fostering strategic partnerships to ensure fiscal stability.
