For the third year in a row, the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Physicians have awarded the Mercy Health — Youngstown’s internal medicine residency program with the 2019 Gold Medal Award. This award recognizes internal medicine resident physicians for their accomplishments in research. The local Mercy Health program has experienced the highest percentage of abstracts accepted for presentation; meaning research that is not only valid but credible and helping to improve the lives of patients throughout the Valley.
“We are extremely proud of those we help train to care for patients.” Said Dr. James Kravec, Chief Clinical Officer at Mercy Health — Youngstown. “The lives that are impacted are not only here in the Valley, but globally. These physicians take the skills they learn here in Youngstown and Warren to people all over the world. This is something all here in the Valley can be proud of.” He added.
With this Gold medal distinction, Mercy Health — Youngstown’s internal medicine residency program ranks amongst the top in the State of Ohio based on the number of abstracts accepted for presentation. There are 27 internal medicine residency programs throughout the State of Ohio.
Locally, there are 31 internal medicine residents at Mercy Health who are building their clinical expertise to care for patients here and abroad. “These resident physicians work tirelessly serving both as physicians and teachers.” Said. Dr. Thomas Marnejon, Director of Internal Medicine Residency at Mercy Health – Youngstown.
“These residents are working with the newest in therapies and technologies right alongside those physicians who have been in practice for many years, therefore mutually benefitting each one of our providers and our patients.” He added.
