Mercy Health - Youngstown Launches New Summer Event

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO (June 23, 2017) – At the core of Mercy Health - Youngstown's Mission is the purpose on which it was founded: to improve the health of our communities by ensuring access to high-quality, affordable, compassionate healthcare for everyone who calls the Mahoning Valley home.

That purpose will come to life on Tuesday, June 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. when the healthcare leader introduces a new summer screening event in collaboration with St. Patrick’s Church. The event will bring screenings, health information, a rigatoni dinner and grocery giveaways to underserved members of the community, especially the un- or under-insured who don’t have access to important preventive health services.

Attendees will have the opportunity to access a variety of free screenings, including:

  • Body mass index (BMI)
  • Blood pressure
  • Bone density
  • Dental screening
  • Mammography (Note: Charges for mammography may apply based on insurance coverage.)
  • Prostate-specific blood draw

In addition to screenings, participants can also gain access to information about programs that can contribute to their overall health and wellbeing, including:

  • Diabetes Education
  • Hispanic Health Program
  • Hospice of the Valley
  • Lead Prevention
  • Prescription Assistance
  • Radiology Services
  • Resource Mothers – Centering Pregnancy
  • Stepping Out
  • Tobacco Cessation

To maximize value for those in need throughout the community, the event will also include a free rigatoni dinner and dessert, as well as two valuable giveaways. Attendees who participate in screenings or health information opportunities can qualify for a grocery bag filled with non-perishable food items (estimated value of up to $25) and a hygiene bag filled with toiletry items and vitamins.

Preventive health screenings are integral to early diagnosis and treatment of disease. As an integral part of the communities it serves, Mercy Health - Youngstown is committed to ensuring access to the screenings that can help save lives. The Healthy Summer Screening Event was made possible through the support of sponsors including St. Patrick’s Church, Joanie’s Sisters in Support Sorority, AVI Food Systems, Gleaner’s Food Bank, United Methodist Community Center, St. John’s Episcopal Church, The Way Station, CareSource, Oak Hill Collaborative, Marc’s, Udder Cream, Joyce Mellot, WRTA and Catholic Charities.
