Mercy Health and Toledo Lucas County Public Library
partner to make mammograms more accessible

Region’s only Mobile Mammography Unit visit library branches monthly

TOLEDO (January 20, 2025) – Since first firing up its engine four years ago, the Mercy Health Mobile Mammography Van has served thousands of patients at hundreds of locations throughout the region.

Mercy Health is excited to now partner with the Toledo Lucas County Public Library to make the region’s only mobile mammography unit even more accessible.

Starting this month, the Mobile Mammography Van will visit a different library branch most months. On Friday, January 31, the van will be on site at the Heatherdowns branch, 3265 Glanzman Road, Toledo.

“Due to its mobility, the Mercy Health – Toledo Mobile Mammography Van has been successful in breaking down the barriers of time, access and location, and instead meets our patients where they are – whether at their local doctor’s office or the nearby library,” said Torri Blanchard, program manager, Mercy Health oncology outreach services. “We are excited to form this new partnership with the Toledo Lucas County Public Library. Together, we can help more people have access to this life-saving screening.”

“Toledo Library is committed to reducing barriers to health services by utilizing our physical locations across the county to the greatest extent possible,” added Allison Fiscus, Adult Services coordinator, Toledo Lucas County Public Library. “One of the best ways we can do this is through partnerships like the Mercy Health Mobile Mammography Unit, which brings high-quality healthcare directly to the neighborhoods we serve.”

This Mercy Health branded mobile mammography unit is customized for patient convenience and will deliver 3D mammograms to eligible women age 40 and older. It is equipped with the newest 3D technology and offers patients the option of self-compression, meaning the patient will have the ability to control the compression once they are in position.
