Mercy Health Select welcomes University of Toledo Physicians
Mercy Health Select (MHS) is pleased to welcome University of Toledo Physicians (UTP) to its Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) Accountable Care Organization (ACO).
MSSP ACOs are groups of doctors, hospitals, and other health care professionals that work together to provide Medicare patients high-quality, coordinated, and cost-efficient health care. When an ACO succeeds, both in delivering high quality care and lowering costs (value-based care) they share in the savings it achieves for the Medicare program.
Together, Mercy Health Select and University of Toledo Physicians will provide Toledo-area Medicare patients with a higher level of coordinated care, creating a better patient experience.
“Mercy Health continues to be a strong performer in value-based care and together with University of Toledo Physicians, we will create mutually beneficial ways to provide coordinated care,” said Bob Baxter, president, Mercy Health - Toledo. “The health and well-being of the community is Mercy Health’s top priority. Mercy Health and University of Toledo Physicians are working together to make health care easier for our patients.”
Mercy Health Select provides high-quality care while reducing costs for its 107,000 Medicare patients in Ohio, Kentucky, and Virginia. Participating since 2012, MHS has created $163 million in savings for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and has generated $103 million in earned shared savings.
MHS has been a top ten ACO, out of 480 Accountable Care Organizations across the country, for earned shared savings for the past three years. In 2023, Becker’s Hospital Review named Mercy Health Select ACO to its list of Top ACOs to Know.
“We are thrilled to welcome the large and diverse UTP group of providers to Mercy Health Select. Their expertise in value-based health care will enhance our already high-performing ACO,” said Akil McClay, chief operating officer, Population Health for Bon Secours Mercy Health. Mercy Health – Toledo is a market within the Bon Secours Mercy Health ministry.
UTP, represents more than 300 providers serving patients throughout the region in a wide range of medical specialties, from primary care to the most complex diagnoses and treatments, distinguished by national leadership in medical education and research.
“We are proud to be able to partner with Mercy to extend the reach of our physician group and bring our academic medical expertise to Mercy Health Select,” said Dr. Jason Schroeder, UTP interim chief physician executive. “We have a shared commitment to providing cost-efficient, top-quality care to the northwest Ohio community.”
