TOLEDO, OH (Aug. 22, 2024) – Mercy Health and the Toledo Roadrunner Club (TRRC) are proud to announce the continuation of a collaboration that brings the community Toledo’s premier running event – the Mercy Health Glass City Marathon.
Now in its 48th year, the marathon has grown to include more runners, more medical teams, more volunteers – all equaling to thousands of miles run through our area neighborhoods, into our Metroparks and over the finish line in the Glass Bowl Stadium on The University of Toledo campus. This week, Mercy Health announced that it has signed on as title sponsor of the signature event for the next five years.
“Mercy Health has had a longstanding commitment to the health and wellbeing of our community and this partnership with the Toledo Roadrunners Club and our involvement in the Mercy Health Glass City Marathon exemplifies this promise,” said Bob Baxter, president, Mercy Health – Toledo. “We are excited to announce that Mercy Health has officially signed on to continue our sponsorship of the marathon into 2025 and beyond, ensuring that our medical teams and running specialists are there to ensure all runners are ready for this challenge and are safe while accomplishing their goals.”
The Mercy Health Glass City Marathon is a family event offering multiple runs to fit every level of participant including a Marathon, the Owens Corning Half Marathon, the North Star Blue Scope 5-Person Relay Marathon, Savage 5K and the Nationwide Children’s – Toledo Kid’s Run. The Mercy Health Glass City Marathon continues to grow as a signature event for the region as well as acting as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.
Mercy Health began its relationship with TRRC and the Glass City Marathon at the 2016 race, starting a years-long commitment to provide medical assistance both before, during and after the event. In fact, each year on race day, about 90 EMS, physical therapy, orthopedics, and sports medicine providers are on site, both on the course and at the finish line.
Additionally, Mercy Health physical therapists and running specialists have been active in helping prepare area runners for the event. Since the start of Mercy Health’s relationship with the marathon, its PT team has seen about 2700 runners in the weeks and months leading up to the marathon, helping them get to the starting line injury free.
“Whether it be during marathon training programs, a low key 5K, or the RRCA National Championship Marathon, I can rest at night knowing that proper care will be provided from start to finish because of the partnership developed with Mercy Health and their emergency medicine and sports medicine teams,” said Clint McCormick, race director, Mercy Health Glass City Marathon. “Thank you to Mercy Health and to all of our partners who come together every year to make this event such a resounding success.”
“Over the past nine years, Mercy Health and the Toledo Roadrunners Club has built a strong partnership and we’re excited that it will continue for the next five years,” added Terri Kirtos, president, Toledo Roadrunners Club. “We strive to put on an amazing race weekend for all of our participants. This is possible because of Mercy Health’s support and sponsorship.”
Registration will soon open for upcoming race, which will be held the weekend of April 26-27, 2025. For more information or to register, visitglasscitymarathon.org.
