Building on the success of initiatives aimed to tackle shortages in the health care workforce, Mercy Health and Mercy College of Ohio are pleased to announce that even more students pursuing careers in health care will be eligible for full tuition assistance.
Since 2022, one of the ways Mercy Health has worked to address the crucial recruitment needs is to offer a transformative program that provides full tuition coverage to eligible nursing students.
New to the tuition assistance program are the highly sought-after health fields of radiologic technology, medical laboratory science, paramedic, sleep tech and surgical technology.
“This initiative has not only been instrumental in shaping the futures of numerous nursing students at Mercy College, but has also been immensely successful in building a strong Mercy Health workforce,” said Bob Baxter, president of Mercy Health – Toledo. “As a leader in building the pipeline to future generations of health care workers, Mercy Health is pleased to offer even more opportunities to our area students.”
"For those who may have delayed their health care education aspirations, this is the perfect time to start. You can now pursue your education without worrying about incurring financial burdens or accumulating debt,” Susan Wajert, PhD, president of Mercy College, added.
Students pursuing these health professions at Mercy College will now have the opportunity to have their entire educational journey funded. This comprehensive support includes tuition, fees and books thanks to the collaborative partnership between Mercy Health and Mercy College of Ohio.
As a result of this initiative, students can potentially have up to 100 percent of their educational expenses covered if they commit to working for Mercy Health while still in school. This unique opportunity is a testament to our commitment to nurturing the next generation of health care professionals while addressing our staffing needs.
Eligible students are required to work for a Mercy Health facility a minimum of six hours per week to qualify for tuition assistance. Following graduation, participants in these programs must commit to working at a Mercy Health facility for 18 months, ensuring a mutually beneficial partnership between students and our health care institution.
