Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo is one of the first in the region to add the Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform as part of the Mercy Health – Neuroscience Institute. The Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform combines preoperative planning tools and analytics with intraoperative guidance, giving Mercy Health surgeons advanced spinal surgery options.
“Neurosurgeons perform some of the most lifesaving and complex brain surgeries. We also can perform relatively simple spine surgeries that can be life-altering for someone with chronic incapacitating pain,” said Dr. Sean Xin, a neurosurgeon with Mercy Health – Neuroscience Institute, St. Vincent Medical Center. “I'm thrilled to offer patients even more minimally invasive options for spine surgery than my current practice using robotic assistance so we can get them healed faster, with less pain, less risk of complications and the quicker return to work and their normal lives.”
“As a spine surgeon, I am involved with treating a wide variety of conditions, ranging from severe trauma to nerve impingement to cancers of the spine among other things. Specifically at St. Vincent, the complexity and variety of spinal conditions that we see and treat routinely is generally wider and of higher complexity than seen by many community-based spine surgeons on a routine basis,” added Dr. Zubair Ahammad, Mercy Health surgeon. “The Mazor X robot is the latest in technological advances in spine surgery that allows us to utilize a robotic arm with GPS-style navigation within the patient's spinal anatomy to place hardware for procedures requiring the spine to be fixated together with screws and rods. The Mazor allows for greater precision, improved safety, less invasiveness and greater efficiency when performing these surgeries.”
The Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform provides surgeons with preoperative planning of the implants and techniques required to treat the patient. Intraoperative trajectory precision means that hardware, such as screws, can be placed safely and in optimal position with added security than before. As spinal surgery has evolved, more focus has been placed on minimally invasive techniques, and this is where the Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform can deliver its greatest technological benefits.
Minimally invasive procedures, with their smaller incisions, can pose a challenge to surgeons due to the limited view of the patient’s anatomy. The Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform helps to overcome this challenge with 3D comprehensive surgical planning and analytics that allow for thorough planning to accomplish the job with less dissection and disruption of tissues.
Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center has established its reputation as a leader in spine surgery with its advanced technologies and excellence in patient care. The Mazor X Stealth™ Edition Robotic Guidance Platform helps us to continue our leadership in spine surgery excellence.
