Mercy Health is proud to announce the addition of Dr. Amir Iqbal and nurse practitioner Jennifer Jones-Gonzalez to the team at Mercy Health – Urbana Cancer Center. Their arrival will further bolster the newly launched oncology program in Urbana, enhancing the comprehensive, patient-centered cancer care available to the community.

Dr. Amir Iqbal is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist with a wealth of experience in treating all forms of cancer, including blood cancers. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of NY Institute of Technology and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania.

Since 2015, Dr. Iqbal has been dedicated to providing cutting-edge treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and clinical trials, ensuring patients receive the best possible care close to home.

Joining him is Jennifer Jones-Gonzalez, a highly experienced nurse practitioner with more than 14 years of clinical, administrative, and teaching experience. Specializing in hospice and palliative care, Jennifer is committed to holistic, patient-centered treatment that prioritizes symptom management and quality of life. Her expertise includes medical oncology, chemotherapy, biologic treatments, radiation oncology, and genetic counseling.

Mercy Health – Urbana Cancer Center recently opened its doors as part of an effort to expand oncology services in Champaign County. The facility offers advanced hematology and oncology treatments, a dedicated team of nurse navigators, and access to clinical trials through Mercy Health’s affiliation with The Ohio State University Comprehensive Care Center – The James Cancer Network. With cancer rates in the region exceeding the state average, this expansion underscores Mercy Health’s commitment to providing life-saving care to the community.
