Mercy Health – Springfield has announced that former Springfield fire chief Brian Miller has been named its new director of community relations, effective June 26.
In his new role, Brian will focus on emergency services as well as cardiac and stroke care by overseeing Mercy Health’s EMS outreach program, community paramedicine program and event medicine teams.
“Brian brings with him a wealth of experience in the region, and we’re excited to see how that teamed with his passion for service will benefit our ministry and the communities we serve,” said Frank Farkash, executive director of emergency and ambulatory services for Mercy Health – Springfield.
As a graduate of Greenon High School in Enon as well as the University of Dayton, Brian is no stranger to the local community. He served with the Springfield Fire Rescue Division for more than 31 years, retiring from the fire services just last month. During that tenure, he held several leadership roles including fire chief from December of 2017 to May of 2023. In that position, he managed an $18 million budget, developed strategic community partnerships and authored more than $1 million in grants. His leadership also helped initiate the construction of four new fire stations, demonstrating a commitment to continually improving community services.
Throughout his career, Brian was awarded Firefighter of the Year and Paramedic of the Year, underlining his exceptional dedication to public service. His commitment extends beyond his professional responsibilities as well – he is a community mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio, a board member for Mental Health and Recovery Board of Clark, Greene and Madison Counties and vice president and board member for Leadership Clark County.
Brian and his wife, Kelly, share three adult children and two grandchildren. His family has built careers that mirror Brian’s dedication to community service, with roles ranging from teaching to emergency nursing.
