Mercy Health is pleased to announce that the Lourdes Women’s Imaging Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the American Academy of Radiology recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy), and MRI breast. To receive BICOE designation, a medical facility must be fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, ultrasound-guided breast biopsy and MRI breast.
“The BICOE designation tells our patients that we are dedicated to excellence,” says Bart Outzen, Director of Imaging Services, Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital. “Patients can rest assured that Mercy Health meets all of the standards set forth by the American College of Radiology, and that we have high-quality equipment and a qualified staff to provide the best possible care.”
Experts in the field, such as board-certified physicians and medical physicists, perform peer-review evaluations in each breast imaging modality. Based on these reviews, they determine that the facility has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel, equipment, quality control and quality assurance.
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
