Mercy Health - Lorain Hospital has been verified as a Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the ACS Committee on Trauma (COT).This achievement recognizes the trauma center’s dedication to providing the highest quality care for injured patients.
“Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care to Lorain County and the surrounding areas. This verification underscores that commitment and we’re proud to deliver this level of care to our community,” said Dr. Gil Palmer, Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital President.
Verified trauma centers must meet the criteria outlined by the ACS COT’s Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual, confirming that the trauma center has demonstrated its commitment to providing optimal trauma care.
According to the American Trauma Society, a Level III Trauma Center has demonstrated an ability to provide “prompt assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care and stabilization of injured patients and emergency operations.” Level III Trauma Centers include 24-hour immediate coverage by emergency medicine physicians and the prompt availability of general surgeons and anesthesiologists.
In 2019, Mercy Health – Lorain opened the Level III Trauma Center, in collaboration with MetroHealth’s nationally recognized trauma program, adding to a legacy of high quality, compassionate care delivery at Mercy Health – Lorain.
“This verification is also a testament to the tremendous work of our team at Mercy Health – Lorain Hospital and our partnership with MetroHealth. We thank MetroHealth for their collaboration and expertise,” continued Dr. Gil Palmer. “Our team’s tireless efforts to compassionately care for our patients every day enable us to provide world-class treatments to Lorain residents right in their backyard.”
