Lima, Ohio (June 3, 2024) – Mercy Health Foundation – Greater Lima will be hosting its fifth annual Red Door Gala benefitting Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center on Thursday, June 6th. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the Birth Place at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

“Every year, countless mothers and babies rely on our hospital for safe and compassionate care during labor and delivery. By upgrading our facilities and investing in the unit we plan to create an improved nurturing environment for both mothers and their newborns” said Sara Ambroza, president, Mercy Health Foundation – Greater Lima. “In addition to upgrading the physical space, we are committed to enhancing emotional support, educational resources, and postpartum services to ensure a smooth transition into motherhood for every new mom.”

During the formal program, the Foundation will present the Mercy Club Award. The award honors those who provide support to Mercy Health – St. Rita’s, as well as those who make a significant impact in our community. Mercy Club is the Foundation’s annual giving club established in 1977.

The Red Door Gala originated with the 100th anniversary of St. Rita’s in 2018 and is inspired by the poem, “The Door of Mercy,” which was written by Sister Mary Wickham, a Sister of Mercy.

Every year at the Red Door Gala a secret entertainer emerges through a red door on stage. Since its inception, the gala has hosted singers LeAnn Rimes, Mark Farner’s American Band, Deana Carter, and Vanessa Williams.

Who is next?

“While the surprise entertainment is always an exciting part of the evening, the Red Door Gala is an opportunity to further our Mission and to advance health care locally,” said Ronda Lehman, president, Mercy Health – Lima. “Over the past 12 months several maternity units have closed in Northwest Ohio, reducing access to care in the region. In renovating our Birth Place, we will be able to continue meeting the needs of our community, while also being equipped to serve a broader geographic footprint.”

The Red Door Gala will be held Thursday, June 6th, at Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center, 7 Town Square. For more information, visit tinyurl.com/RedDoorGala2024. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a formal program beginning at 7:30 p.m. Please note this is a ticketed event.
