St. Rita’s Diabetes Education Program Receives ADA Recognition
(LIMA; March 16, 2017) St. Rita’s Health Partners Medication Management Clinic (formerly The Health Management Group) is proud to announce that it has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA). On March 15, they received the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate. This certificate assures that educational programs meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs.
“Since 2000, our clinic’s diabetes education program has been honored to uphold this national standard and serve Lima and surrounding communities,” Christian Nygaard, clinical leader and clinical pharmacist at St. Rita’s Health Partners Medication Management Group, said. “For those in our community who have been affected by diabetes, we want to ensure that we are providing them with the best possible resources.”
According to the 2016 Allen County Community Health Profile published by Allen County Public Health, 12 percent of Allen County residents have been diagnosed with diabetes, compared to 11 percent in Ohio and of 11 percent U.S. residents (Allen County Health Risk, 2014). According to the American Diabetes Association, there are 29.1 million people in the U.S. living with diabetes.
“Diabetes is the seventh-leading cause of death in the U.S. To help combat this number, it’s important that we provide the proper education and care in our communities,” Nygaard said.
To attain recognition, programs apply voluntarily. To achieve recognition status a clinic’s application receives a rigorous and detailed review. Programs that receive recognition have a staff of knowledgeable healthcare professionals who can provide participants with advanced education about diabetes self-management.
The American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate is awarded by the American Diabetes Association and is awarded for four years. St. Rita’s Health Partners Medication Management Clinic is honored to have this distinction. They are also proud to provide quality care to the communities they serve.
