Mercy Health Names Melissa Samuelson Chief Nursing Officer of East Market – Cincinnati
Mercy Health – Cincinnati, which provides advanced, compassionate, quality care in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that Melissa Samuelson, DNP, MSN, RN, NEA, BC, joins Mercy Health as the Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer of Mercy Health’s East Market, which includes Anderson and Clermont hospitals.
Dr. Samuelson assumes her role with Mercy Health on February 19 and reports to Ken James, Mercy Health East Market President and CEO. As the chief nursing officer, Dr. Samuelson’s responsibilities include supervising nurses and nurse managers, facilitating the design and implementing the delivery of patient care, recommending strategies to improve services, reaching established goals and maintaining excellent patient outcomes.
Dr. Samuelson received her Bachelors and Masters of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees from University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama. Dr. Samuelson is also certified as an advanced nurse executive and is an active member of American Organization of Nurse Executives, American Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.

Prior to joining Mercy Health, Dr. Samuelson was the chief nursing executive for Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, located in Poplar, Missouri, where her leadership helped improve the healthcare center’s patient safety score by 40 percent. She’s also held chief nursing executive roles with Stringfellow Memorial Hospital in Anniston, Alabama and Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett, Missouri.
Dr. Samuelson and her husband Steve are relocating to Cincinnati.
