What is a blood pressure screening?
A blood pressure screening tests how hard the blood is pushing against the artery walls when the heart pumps blood. Blood pressure is considered normal if it is below 120/80 mm/Hg and above 90/60 mm/Hg.
A blood pressure screening is one of the most important screenings to detect high blood pressure. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, so it cannot be detected without being tested regularly.
How often should you get your blood pressure checked?
People over the age of 40 should get their blood pressure checked at least once a year. People between the ages of 18-40 should be checked at least every 3 to 5 years. If you have had a high blood pressure result in the past, you should get checked more frequently.
