Neurological Disorders and Brain Diseases

A neurological disorder is any disease of the brain, spine, or the nerves that connect them. From strokes and brain tumors, to Giloma and head injuries, to aneurysms and headaches — there are more than 600 nervous system diseases. These include well-known conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy, as well as less familiar ones, like post-herpetic neuralgia. With one billion people currently suffering from a neurological disease, neurological disorders are more common than many of us think.

Neurological disorders can be congenital, which means they are present at birth, or acquired, which means they develop later on. Congenital causes are often gene or chromosome abnormalities, while acquired causes can range from traumatic brain injuries to exposure to toxins.

Disruptions to the nervous system can result in a broad spectrum of physical and/or physiological symptoms. Among these, common symptoms include seizures, confusion, paralysis, muscle weakness, and feeling fuzzy. Specific symptoms are a result of where damage occurred.

Based off your symptoms and diagnosis, treatment for neurological disorders may be as simple as a change in diet and exercise, or as complex as neurosurgery. Pain management, medication and physiotherapy are also treatment options.
